Have you been telling yourself your myofunctional therapy certification is enough while watching months turn into years of zero consistent income?
Friend, I’m going to pull back the curtain on something the training programs never show you. The real work that happens between getting your myofunctional therapy certification and actually building a profitable business.
The messy, honest truth about what it takes to go from certified and broke to hitting $12,000 months.

I want to tell you about “Susie Q”, a real coaching client whose story perfectly illustrates what happens when you stop trying to bridge the gap between certification and profit alone.
The Certification Illusion
When Susie Q came into my world in late 2025, she was exactly where most of you are right now. She had her myofunctional therapy certification, had enrolled in my business training course (since rebranded to The Profitable Myofunctional Therapist), was preparing to open her private practice in October, and was confident her training had prepared her for business success.
She was certified. Clinically confident. Ready to change lives.
But here’s what nobody tells you about myofunctional therapy certification: it teaches you how to treat patients, not how to get patients.
October came. She opened her doors. And by January, she was stuck.
Zero consistent revenue. All over the place with priorities. Ready to close down before she’d really even started.
Sound familiar?
What Your Myofunctional Therapy Certification Doesn’t Teach You
Your myofunctional therapy certification covered anatomy, assessment protocols, therapy techniques, and treatment planning. It probably didn’t cover:
- How to price your services profitably
- How to create irresistible packages that sell themselves
- How to market to ideal clients who value what you do
- How to build systems that run without you
- How to handle the psychological gap between training and income
- How to create a website with both SEO and GEO components
- How to train and use AI (correctly) while working as a mighty team of one
- How to collect metrics, analyze the data, and make data-driven decisions that put money in your wallet
- How to attract all the easy, peasy, dreamy clients you want
- How to set boundaries to repel the clients you won’t want
- How to manage your time, create efficiency, and set up systems from the get-go
- How to make sure your files and images are named correctly with alt text
This isn’t a flaw in the certification programs. It’s just reality. Clinical training and business training are two completely different skill sets. And, my friend…it’s 2026, and the business landscape is fundamentally changing – quickly. Many people who are “teaching business” have no idea what half of that ☝️ stuff is.
This is why I’ve spent big money on curating the knowledge for you. So you don’t have to shell out the money, do the learning, figure out how to implement it – all while you work a job. I do that for you. I get the knowledge. I apply it to myofunctional therapy. I distill it down so new business owners can understand it.

What Actually Happened in Our First Get Unstuck Call
In January, when Susie Q booked her first Get Unstuck call with me, she was experiencing exactly what I see in 90% of certified therapists: a desperation mindset, a lack mentality, and completely scattered priorities.
Here’s what we worked on in that first 45-minute session:
First: Block butt-in-chair business hours on her calendar. You cannot build a business in stolen moments between other responsibilities. Your business needs protected time to exist.
Second: Get crystal clear on her WHO. If you’re trying to serve everyone, you’re serving no one. We needed to nail down exactly who her ideal client was.
Third: Create an irresistible offer. Not a menu of random services, but a clear package that solves a specific problem for her specific person.
Fourth: Pick one marketing platform and stick with it. The scattered approach wasn’t working.
I also laid out exactly what six months of coaching with me would look like. We’d work on time management, mindset, business systems, pricing, and building street cred with her audience.
Here’s the thing: she still didn’t think she could afford coaching.
The Breakthrough Moment
Something shifted in February. Not because she suddenly found extra money lying around, but because she realized something critical: the cost of staying stuck was greater than the cost of getting help.
She said yes to coaching. Not because it was easy, but because staying where she was had become impossible.
What We Actually Worked On
Let me break down exactly what we tackled in our first three coaching sessions, because this is what real business coaching looks like:
Session 1: Foundation Setting
- Clarified her WHO (ideal customer)
- Set pricing that made sense for her market
- Streamlined her comprehensive exam from 2 hours to something profitable
- Built efficiency so she could actually make money per hour spent
Session 2: Systems and Strategy
- Evaluated what was working and what wasn’t (data, not drama)
- Identified her most creative time for marketing
- Reorganized her schedule to match her energy
- Built out her ideal customer avatar in detail
- Analyzed her Facebook audience metrics to ensure alignment
- Created therapy packages and payment plans
- Found her “happy pricing”, above resentment level, below barfing level

Session 3: Boundaries and Automation
- Had a “hold my beer” moment when I discovered she’d done unpaid work for FOUR clients
- Set hard boundaries around payment before any work begins
- Identified manual tasks that needed automation
- Built systems for invoicing, scheduling, and client management
This isn’t “mindset work” or “finding your why” … this is tactical business strategy that bridges the gap between certification and profit.

The Real Results
Here’s what happened next: Susie Q hit a $12,000 month.
Not because she got lucky. Not because she found some secret hack. Because she stopped trying to do everything herself and started following a proven system with someone holding her accountable. Oh yeah, and most importantly…she changed her dang attitude.
Why Myofunctional Therapy Certification Alone Isn’t Enough
Every single student who has ever entered my programs has come in scattered, scared, unsure, and overwhelmed. Every single certified therapist.
Your myofunctional therapy certification isn’t the finish line. It’s the starting line.
And here’s what you need to hear: nobody builds a profitable practice alone. Nobody.
You can DIY it for so long. You can Google it for so long. You can consume every free resource and listen to every podcast for so long.
But the free stuff only gets you to the doorway. It doesn’t get you across the threshold from certified to profitable. Duct tape and a prayer are no way to build a business.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is myofunctional therapy certification enough to start a practice?
Myofunctional therapy certification gives you the clinical skills to treat patients. It does not teach you how to find patients, price your services, build a marketing system, or run a profitable business. Most trained therapists discover this gap only after they’ve opened their doors and heard crickets. Certification is the starting line, not the finish line.
Why are certified myofunctional therapists not getting clients?
The most common reason is that clinical training and business training are completely separate skill sets. Certification programs teach anatomy, assessment, and therapy techniques. They do not teach offer creation, pricing strategy, client attraction, or the systems that keep a practice running. Certified therapists who struggle to get clients almost always have a business gap, not a clinical one.
How long does it take to make money as a myofunctional therapist?
It depends entirely on when you start building the business side of your practice. Therapists who invest in business coaching and follow a structured system can see their first paying clients within weeks of completing training. Those who try to figure it out alone often spend months or years stuck at zero consistent revenue. The clinical training is not the bottleneck. The business strategy is.
What is a Get Unstuck Call and who is it for?
A Get Unstuck Call is a free 45-minute coaching conversation with Carmen Ball. It is for trained myofunctional therapists who know something needs to change but are not sure where to start. On the call, Carmen identifies the one specific thing keeping you stuck, maps a clear path forward, and outlines what working together would look like. There is no pressure and no hard sell. You leave with clarity either way.
What is the difference between LMT60 and the Profitable Myofunctional Therapist program?
LMT60 is the clinical foundation — a 60-day self-paced training program for dental hygienists and allied health professionals who want to add myofunctional therapy to their practice. The Profitable Myofunctional Therapist is the business coaching program for therapists who are already trained and need help building the systems, strategy, and skills to turn their credentials into consistent income. Clinical first, business second. That is the correct order.
The Real Question You Need to Ask
Instead of “My myofunctional therapy certification should be enough,” ask yourself this: “What specific business skills do I need to develop to turn my myofunctional therapy certification into consistent income?”
The cost of staying stuck is always worse than the cost of getting unstuck.
